The Tenderness Of The Ten Commandments

Deuteronomy 5:5-6 “I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to show you the word of the LORD: for you were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount; saying, 6 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.”

Here, in the fifth chapter of Deuteronomy we see Moses reminding God’s people of the 10 Commandments. Now, when you think about the 10 Commandments do you imagine a list of rules that bind you up and burden you down? Or, do you realize that the reality behind God’s heart when it comes to the 10 commandments was to keep and to establish freedom in the life of his people? Remember, God had taken them from bondage not to bring them into another bondage but to set them free. Know this, as Jesus said, “So if the Son(Jesus) sets you free you will be free indeed.” John 8:36

Now, when it comes to freedom, Jesus has a different formula to feed us then this world does. He tells us over and over in the gospels through parables and directly to his disciples that true freedom comes when we lay our lives down. When we follow the Lord and draw near to Him. Throughout Deuteronomy, we will see the introduction into human history of the love of God. Love in its true form was unveiled to mankind in Deuteronomy. No wonder Deuteronomy was Jesus’ favorite book of the Bible. Moses, will share eight different messages seeking to remind, establish, and propel the people of God into their destiny, the Promised Land.

May God as Paul says in 2 Thessalonians 3:5, ‘And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.’
