Judges 6:23-24 “Then the Lord said to him, “Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die.” 24 So Gideon built an altar there to the Lord, and called it The-Lord-Is-Peace.”
This past Sunday we looked at God’s revelation to Gideon as Jehovah Shalom “The Lord Our Peace.”
Webster defines peace as “freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility.”
Now, here in Judges 6 Israel as a people were in great distress. They were sowing but not reaping. They were trying hard but not walking in a accurate and healthy REALITY of who God is and who they were. But, after 7 years of suffering they finally “cried out to the Lord.”
It was then that God raised up a deliverer, but when studied carefully, he in and of himself was the least of the people of Israel. God would reveal Himself to Gideon in such a way that Gideon would know God as Jehovah Shalom… The Lord his peace.
Do you know Jehovah Shalom? Does God’s peace rule and reign in your heart perpetually telling the winds and waves around you to be still?
Matthew Henry said, “Peace is such a precious jewel, that I would give anything for it but truth.”
Safety consists not in the absence of danger but in the presence of God. Peace that Jesus gives is not the absence of trouble, but is rather the confidence that He is there with you always.
I pray that God’s peace will rule and reign in your hearts.
By His Spirit,
Pastor Bill
