“The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1
This past Sunday we looked at the revelation of God as Jehovah Rohi “the Lord our shepherd.” I hope you stopped for a moment and rested by the still waters and that you even now are allowing our GREAT SHEPHERD to restore your soul.
Now, as we looked at the text we saw David, the aged King reflect on his life and see how God had been “my shepherd.” How, that each time he strayed the Lord was faithful to draw him back… Is Jesus YOUR shepherd? Have you come to acknowledge as the bible refers over and over again that you are a sheep? That you are prone to wander?
We paused to think through the context of Psalm 23 coming directly after Psalm 22. In Psalm 22 we saw a prophetic picture of the coming Messiah and what He would suffer on the cross. We saw in 22:16 “they pierced my hands and my feet” and we nailed down the reality that if we have not accepted the SAVIOR of Psalm 22 we miss out on the SHEPHERD of Psalm 23.
Today, is Jesus your shepherd? Have you accepted the Savior Messiah of Psalm 22? Are you staying close to your SHEPHERD?
God loves you dearly as a shepherd loves his sheep and He will draw you back, protect you, and shepherd you always… For additional study on Jesus as our shepherd I would highly recommend getting the book, A Shepherd Looks At Psalm 23 by Phillip Keller.
By His Spirit,
Pastor Bill
